It’s so important to make sure we aren’t getting in our way with ridiculous thoughts. I could want something so badly and believe I could get it, but tear myself down with negative thoughts that contradict what I want. So I will eventually get what I want out of sheer will, but it might take me 10x longer than it should have if I would’ve just kept those bad thoughts away. 

So how do we control them? Well, just like in any program, awareness is key. We need to be more aware of what we are thinking. Period. This is really important. Letting your mind pick up a negative thought, without conscious involvement, can lead to snowballing. Soon, you’re knee deep in doom and gloom which takes a lot longer to untangle. You must stop the thought sooner. For instance, my #1 negative thought is “I’m not happy.” This is horribly detrimental to all that I want to do in life. Because my #1 GOAL in life is to BE HAPPY. 

I’ve used the “I’m not happy” as the reason why I need to get out of many things. A relationship, a job, a city, you name it. I’ve run from it. So, it came to me today in my morning meditation that I cannot think or say that anymore. It’s not serving me. But not only is it not serving me, it’s making things worse. It’s keeping the “I’m not happy” going. It’s keeping it in my life. I’m feeding in with the energy in my thoughts. So, once you’re aware, it’s easy after that, right? 

Hmmm, simple yes…easy, maybe not. Otherwise, we’d all change just like that because we’d be having amazing experiences brought to us within seconds! Well, I am going to change my thought process. My awareness is stronger today than it was yesterday. There are so many reason that I can say I’m happy. And though I might get stuck on a topic where, indeed, I’m not getting what I want…I must switch to a different train of thought. What am I happy about? Go there. Move away from the not happy topic.  Thoughts are powerful. Everything in life was once just a thought. They mean something and it’s time to harness that power and put it to good use in your life. 

What’s your one major negative thought that is holding you back? Make fun of it, laugh at it…I’m not happy? Of course, I’m happy! I have this and this and this and that. It’s going to be ok. Start today though, what do you have to lose and what the heck are you waiting for?
